Hi, I’m Joe Allen,
I am a Musical Director and Composer working in professional theatre (York Theatre Royal, Anton Benson Productions, Northern Opera Group).
I founded the Joe Allen Musical Theatre Studio – York to create a space for local musical theatre performers to expand and grow through personalised support and coaching.

I’m here to help you feel confident, supported, and ready to achieve your biggest performance dreams. Through personalised 1-to-1 lessons or focused group sessions, we will work on essential skills including:

- Acting Through Song
- Nervous System Education: This is a key part of my training, helping you move beyond performance anxiety to feel calm, centred, and fully ready to unlock your best Musical Theatre performance. 1:1 Lessons
£22.50 per Half Hour
(billed in blocks of 5 or 10 lessons)
The powerhouse lesson for ongoing support and training.
These 1:1’s are personalised with you to meet your goals.
We’ll start with a consultation lesson where we’ll discuss what you’re hoping to achieve and you can get a flavour for how lessons are structured with me.
From there, we’ll come up with an initial plan and the work begins together!

8-Week INTENSIVE Group Course
£180 total
For local Musical Theatre performers ready to take control of their auditioning skills.
This 8-week course combines:
5x 75min In-Person Group Coaching Sessions
3x 50min: Online 1:1 Coaching Sessions
It is designed to give you the tools and knowledge required to go from just attending an audition, to performing your audition.

- WEEK 1 – Tues 14th April, In-Person Class, 18:15 – 19:30
- WEEK 2 – Tues 21st April, In-Person Class, 18:15 – 19:30
- WEEK 3 – Wk. Cm. 27th April – Digital Week (1:1s)
- WEEK 4 – Tues 5th May, In-Person Class, 18:15 – 19:30
- WEEK 5 – Wk. Cm. 11th May – Digital Week (1:1s)
- WEEK 6 – Tues 19th April, In-Person Class, 18:15 – 19:30
- WEEK 7 – Wk. Cm 26th May – Digital Week (1:1s)
- WEEK 8 – Tues 2nd June, In-Person Class

PAYMENTS
When signing up for lessons and courses you will receive an invoice, we ask this is paid by bank transfer to avoid card processing fees. If you need to make payment through an alternate method please get in contact.
WHY DO I LOVE TEACHING?
I’ve been providing vocal training to musical theatre performers since 2023.
Over this time, as well as working with adults, I’ve built a specialism working with teenage performers to meet their goals, these have included:
- Developing their singing voice (yes, anyone can learn to sing!)
- Gaining Lead Roles in York productions.
- Getting into their dream theatre school.
- Preparing to audition for professional regional & national production (and yes we achieve these goals – we’ve currently got a student who is in National Theatre’s Inter Alia on the West End!).
And each of the students at Joe Allen Musical Theatre Studio – York is doing this, whether a teenager or an adult. They are all making progress towards their own goals and doing it in a way that works best for them with tailored support and guidance each step of the way.
